As the world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact on vulnerable people and the global economy will be felt for years to come. Many people in developing countries like Uganda still depend on the informal economy, where the road to recovery will be longer and steeper. Estimates show that over a billion people in the informal economy may lose their livelihoods due to the pandemic’s toll.

In Uganda many households are facing economic challenges as a result of the Pandemic. Our research to FINCA Customers reveal that majority are faced with a significant drop in household incomes.

The Tomorrow is Here Campaign is our commitment to supporting Ugandans through this journey.

FINCA Uganda plays a critical role in reaching the most affected populations in Uganda and has in its 28 years of existence in Uganda served over a millions customers, through access to credit, savings and other financial services for self-employment activities.

As one of the leading Micro Deposit Taking Institutions in Uganda, FINCA has grown with the support of many Ugandans, Building Tomorrow Together. It is time to live our tomorrow now, in order to save livelihoods and help Ugandans, as we take the first steps towards economic recovery.

To achieve this, we shall over the coming weeks and months launch new and modified products and services all informed by the months of research from you the public. To support these initiatives, we have set up a top of the range customer services center and enriched our customer service touch points with multiple online options for our customers.

The Executive Director will expound on the array of products which we have developed and/are in process of developing to meet the market demands.

FINCA Uganda’s rebirth: A new customer service model, new delivery channels.

The change to this new identity is not only visual; it is as well a move towards a new approach called “Tomorrow Is Here” by FINCA Uganda. In this new approach, customers are placed at the center, where satisfaction and wellbeing are key: problem solving is paramount, services will be easier and more affordable, and employees will be honored to serve the clients at the earliest opportunity. The introduction of the new banking service model will take place in parallel with the introduction of the digital delivery channels to improve service experience.

FINCA Uganda’s move is an important update, work that has been going on for some time and the result of which was the readiness of our staff to move to a qualitatively new level. FINCA provides trusted, affordable and innovative financial services to aspirational hardworking individuals and communities in a friendly and inspirational way while giving them peace of mind and hope for a better tomorrow.

According to our strategy, we will focus on servicing and lending to micro, small and medium-sized businesses, Agric businesses as well as to individuals. We want to become the most attractive financial institution in this segment and are ready to invest our resources in the introduction of innovative, modern financial services. We will reduce the interest rates for groups and agriculture. Group rates are by over 20%

Thus, FINCA Uganda will continue to contribute to the overall development of the financial sector in Uganda.

Our team is inspired by “Tomorrow is here”, which is built on the inspired work of each employee, each of whom is part of our common team. I also want to point out the support provided to by our shareholders and the board. I am sure that by our joint efforts FINCA Uganda will soon become a symbol of a modern, advanced technology financial institution, in which the client is at the first place.

FINCA has already used technology to develop alternative distribution channels like automated teller machines (ATMs).

With FINCA Mobile banking, we will be serving both existing customers better and reach new customers.

FINCA is experimenting diverse alternative delivery channels to reduce costs, facilitate greater outreach to hard-to-reach areas, and increase customer convenience. Mobile phones are used to reach many more customers at a lower cost than any existing delivery channel.

We are ready to support both existing and new customers when they are experimenting the nearly ubiquitous FINCA Mobile banking service. They will be using the service to figure out ways through trial and error to use it to meet their money management needs. We will be observing customer behavior and work closely with customers during this time to continue to figure out the best way to make loan payments and deposits via Mobile banking services safe and convenient for all customers.

I would like to conclude by highlighting the importance of us working together to address our common challenges as we strive to enable more of our people benefit from FINCA financial services.
